Environmental Strategy

Our ambition

Since our beginning, environmental sustainability has been a central component of our business strategy; we’ve been on a green mission, designing and building reusable and recyclable event solutions.

We have a responsibility to make every aspect of our business as sustainable as possible and are committed to reducing our impact on the environment.

Pioneering a circular economy

We are focused on optimising the materials we use, continuously moving towards a circular economy approach. We adopt a comprehensive strategy that encompasses materials, energy, lifetime, and utilisation.

By aligning these elements, we unlock the complete potential of circularity, fostering a sustainable future for the events industry.

Responsible use of resources

We have established a comprehensive system to track and transparently communicate our carbon footprint. Through quarterly and annual assessments, we calculate and report our Scope 1, 2, and 3 emissions.

To reduce our consumption over this calendar year, we will be looking at the following areas:

  • Introduce energy saving measures where possible in the AV refurbishment of the Showroom.

  • Implement further LED light alternatives in the office and production facility.

  • Turn off air conditioning units at 12 noon every day to conserve energy.

At the end of 2022, a decision was made to reduce the number of required office visits by the sales team. In Q1 2023, we recorded a 38 per cent decrease in Co2 output from the hotel stays but also staff mileage and emissions from having to drive into the office.

This is a prime example of how our sustainability efforts can make a difference not only to our environmental impact but also help cut spending in unnecessary areas.

We are actively aiming to reduce our hotel stays where possible – a high-cost, high-impact activity that can be easily remedied by encouraging the use of public transport. This has been addressed by updating the Company Travel Expenses Policy for all staff to comply with.

Our modular exhibition stand system is made from 75 per cent recycled aluminium that can be fully recycled at the end of their lifetime. Modular exhibition systems are built for reconstruction, they give increased flexibility and ease of transport in addition to being environmentally friendly. These systems have an estimated lifespan of 10+ years and Whitespace Group holds one of the largest rental inventories of exhibition system in Europe.

Our largest regular emitter of Co2e is from our fabrics and we are committed to educating our clients on the re-usability of these, where we offer storage and responsible disposal solutions, if the client chooses they do not want to keep them. Through our in-house graphics production facility, we are able to provide one of the most extensive mixes of graphics printing on a wide variety of sustainable substrates

Whitespace Group acknowledges the significance of water as a shared and scarce resource. We are committed to using water efficiently by minimising leakage and wastage.

For example, the installation of new concussive taps in the bathroom should reduce the overall yearly consumption.

Waste from our Head Office, production facility and on-site teams is responsibly recycled, maintaining a zero per cent waste to landfill policy since the beginning of 2021.

We have reduced our waste to energy recovery stats by 2%.

2022 – Average 89% Recycled, 11% Energy Recovery

2023 – Average 91% Recycled, 9% Energy Recovery
